Redcar Summer Camp Report 2011 25th – 29th July
Summer Camp is always one of the highlights of the year, Coaches and Gymnasts are excited to think what new skills and laughs we are going to have.
This year was no exception, from the little gymnasts embarking on their gym careers to the old hands at camps everyone has tried hard.
Day one saw the welcome gifts free to the campers, this year was a new leotard the Colours were awesome multi colours, ranging from bright yellow, purple, blue and Orange with Lime green sparkling, the girls looked great all in their different colours so a great rainbow effect was created.
Camp went off to a flying start with Imi Cook being the first to ring for her cartwheel on bare beam, closely followed by Hannah Peggs her free cartwheel on beam.
The air was full with Tambourine ringing and shrieks from the coaches of Yesssss you have got it, along with oh my word what was that.
The gymnasts certainly have risen to the occasion, trying new skills, in the hope they can win a prize, this year we gave no prizes for Red splat skills, but made the decision if it was on pad on beam or bare it could have a prize, the tumble skills improved, as gymnasts showed us a range of straight front somi, to twist, and double backs, with Lauren H, showing us a lovely Tucked Yurchenko, Nessie. & Lauren F and Holly trying their first Yurchenko preps.
Some strange catches and Dawn flood with her contact lens that rolled in her eye and reappeared later that night, Marie who added the team scores up every day, to shouts of not that team, this one and so on.
The girls were also treated to dance with Tanya, who created a dance to the Shakira number WAKA WAKA, it’s still playing in our heads, and Tanya provided ribbons for their hair
The little Mini elite, Lucy, Tiga-Lilly, Sophia, Milly B, Imogen S, showed us their smiles all week and enjoyed the atmosphere taking great pride in being on the big girl’s team’s well done little ones. Big things to come from these little ones I hope.
Summer Camp is hugely popular, and we were over subscribed again, make sure you get your name down, next year early.
Thank you to all the Coaches, for all their hard work, their smiles and their laughs, and to all the Fantastic Gymnasts.
