Greater Manchester OpenCompetition

Held at Birchwood Tennis and Leisure Centre, Warrington, 6th and 7th June 2009.

12 Gymnasts and 3 Coaches, plus 2 Judges and a whole host of supporters made their way along the M62 full of excitement and apprehension, not having been there before certainly tested the nerves.

We had no idea what to expect, but why we worried I don’t know as the competition was fantastic. The people were friendly and the atmosphere was electric.

First up Saturday were Tyla and Melissa and great competition and a clean beam routine from Melissa. Nice floor, Tyla and well earned scores, however slightly more difficulty would have helped.  The prize for Melissa was a clean Beam.

On next round were Ellie and Alice. Changed routines on the competition floor didn’t phase you, Alice with an amazing beam and Ellie what great tumbling, an excellent first national competition for both of you.  Caroline and Dana fantastic; you tried so hard, coming away with a whole host of medals, massive vaults and clean bars for Caroline but some jumping off beam though oldies!

Round 3 saw the 01 birthdays, Jess, Hannah and Macy. All super stars in your first national competition and first competition on voluntary rules. You were all so excited about going away and some about being in a hotel with your friends. You all sailed round the pieces.  Hannah, clean beam, (stuck) and an amazing routine, 3rd Overall, Macy 2nd overall on vault;  woweee!

Sunday saw the levels children; Lauren in level 3 and Shannon and Chloe in level 4.  Sunday was a  completely  different atmosphere. I’m not sure if it was the warm up round or the competition was really hard, there were some talented gymnasts here.  In level 4, Shannon and Chloe held their own, we wanted to see how far on target they were for September.  They were fantastic, a well earned beam Bronze medal for Chloe, and another clean beam (prize).

Lauren; oh! what a competition this was, some amazing gymnasts in level 3, some of the top gymnasts in the country, but you sailed around. Fab, fab, tzuk to win you 2nd place overall, and woops; bars went over the top! I’m not surprised as we changed the routine 3 times.

All in all a great weekend. We surely will do it again next year, so come on girls, some new skills please.

Thanks to all the supporters, and thanks to all the Children who all behaved impeccably.

(Remember girls the scores next time out won’t be so high, these were different rules!).
