The Junior Challenge Cup was held in Aldershot on 22nd and 23rd November, 2008. The venue was the Rushmoor Gymnastics Academy, deep in the Aldershot town. The journey was stress free, as we flew down to Heathrow. Well, I say stress free as we had to hire a car and drive on the M25, but it wasn’t too bad. Friday saw awful rain as we arrived but we had high spirits, and the girls Dana and Rebecca were looking forward to the competition. Shopping is always on the agenda, and the day we were not competing we took the tube into central London. On a crisp morning and with our comfy shoes on we got to do some retail therapy; London was buzzing, all the lights were shining on Oxford street and it was great. Back at the Travel Inn we chilled out after having a bath, lovely and hot. Sunday this year saw the competition with a lot of entries. We looked oh so smart; the new Elite Kit is fantastic. It sparkles like Christmas trees, quite appropriate for this time of year; some coaches commented on how well turned out the girls looked. Dana and Rebecca were in the Junior section, the youngest of the age groups. What a great competition, considering that both were injured and both had antibiotic treatment the week before. This is typical at the moment for us, injuries or illness seems to be RGC`s main problem at the moment. Beam was first; couple of falls, ugh! Floors were amazing; I can't remember seeing them so nice. Dana, your face said it all; you tried so hard. Both Dana and Rebecca competed new moves, which proves there is more to come from these two talented gymnasts. Thanks to the travelling buddies, Carole, (Quozi) and Di Smith. Thanks to Marsha (Willow the wisp), we once again had such a laugh, just what the Dr ordered !!! PS, Marsha is willow the wisp because she wont sit still and runs off and leaves us, and Carole is Quozi cos she has a terrible crick in her neck, and Diane S, I do like the hat, he he, mind you had better like my bag!! Another unforgettable RGC weekend, xxx
