Event Report February and March 2010

How busy we all have been; I think we have been meeting ourselves coming backward!  Once again Sport For all In February was an exciting event, we had a mixed team this year with two girls from Elite Squad and three from General Squad, and they made up a very happy team of girls.  We also had two boys competing from our Boys Squad. We all set off to Stainsby Gym Club where we were given a very happy welcome. The gymnasts loved it, this was their first competition for their age and a larger than average entry kept us biting our nails until the last gymnast had competed.

We didn’t need to worry. Mae Hill came in gold position in the Under 10 girls and the team, of Lucy, Ellie, Olivia and Bethany finished in a very respectable 4th place.

Joseph Ellerby with his cheeky smile won for the Boys and Michael Tosedevin came in a well earned 2nd position, with the other boys being much older. Well done to everyone.

Next competition up were Grades at Newcastle; Grade 14 being the first grade. We had only one 8 in the year entry, Mae Hill (02) `Hilly`  stole the show with an amazing clean performance, to come out 2.96 in front of second place, well done Hilly, a clean win!!!

Grade 13 was next round, one step up, so Naomi and Chloe take part. I have to say I have never seen Chloe looking more confident; well done Jonesy, you were a star. Naomi, how well you did finishing in 1st overall, another trophy for “Redcar Rockets”.

Next up saw some of the General Squad girls make a clean sweep in Grade 14, age 11 and under. Megan and Kate being placed and receiving ribbons, Emma in 3rd place and Holly Dunn bringing home yet another TROPHY¬!!! Wow!  Team Gold.

Next on were the age under 13 Grade 13 AND ONCE AGAIN to our amazement, RGC succeeded. With Amber coming in 4th position, Chelsea in 3rd position and CHLOE HARRISON, bringing home the gold again, this day can’t get any better we thought.  Team Gold, team  including Megan Bailey, who did her bars outstandingly!

Abbie Morrison was in Grade 14 age under ten finishing in 10th position, well done.  Grade 12 in age, oh my goodness yes it just got better! Tilly in 3rd place and Chloe Robinson in 2nd and team Silver, oh my goodness!

Amy Dunn in age 13 and under also picked up a 3rd place! Some result, as Amy has just come back to gym; go girl!

I’m not sure how we can top this year; some fantastic scores, most on a distinction.  This would not be possible if we didn’t have such dedicated coaches, thank you to you all, these girls looked fabulous, and Redcar Rockets just get stronger and stronger.

Next report from the rest of the Grades, soon.

Annual Parents Meeting

Please remember we hold our annual meeting for all parents on Monday 11th January 2010 at 7.00pm in the gym.  This is a vital meeting to look at our plans for the next year and to elect a new executive committee to run the club.  This is the chance for every parent to have a say in how the club runs and to ask questions or make comments.  Please try to attend if you can.

Planning Permission

Great news this week. We have just heard that we have been given full planning permission for our new gymnastics centre which we hope to build in the grounds of Rye Hills Specialist Sports College. This is a major step forward in our project, and one which has taken a lot of hard work.  The club would like to thank all of those who have supported us this far, including the Rotary Club, who began it all, Roger Hansom and his team from Hansom Architects who have done all of the design work ably supported by Greg Sills of Scurator, Parsec Green Energy, the Head and Governors of Rye Hills, the many Councillors and officials of Redcar and Cleveland Council, and all of those who have contributed financially.  We are currently working on a detailed business plan and looking at funding sources, and in order for our plan to succeed and bring a world class facility to Redcar we need the support of everyone in the area.  If you feel you can help us please contact us and get involved.

Other good news this week has been further success for the club at the annual NEGA awards ceremony.  The club was awarded the Women's Technical Committee club of the year which is a great honour for us and reflects the hard work of all of our coaches.  Individual awards for services to gymnastics were awarded to Coaches Justine Fowler and Sue Cook and to Steve and Barbara Hall.  Some pictures from the ceremony and of Dana in Israel at the Maccabiah games are on the galleries now.

October 2009 news part 1

Sorry for not adding any updates to the news section of the site for a while.  We have all been so busy over the last couple of months, with competitions, camps and courses.

Back in June the Elite girls went off to Manchester to take part in the Manchester Open, what a fantastic competition, some great gymnasts and great staff at the venue. We were made to feel very welcome and will certainly do this competition next year. The squad chosen to attend were all excited, not sure if they were as excited about the competition as they were about the stop over in a hotel. The hotel was interesting to say the least, but we all survived. They just weren’t prepared for the amount of children taking part in the event. Some great results, Shannon picking up a beam medal, Macy a vault medal, Hannah all around third and Lauren 2nd on vault.  We had a great competition and the girls truly enjoyed the experience.

Next our were our camps, which were fantastic. This year had seen a change in the format; we had a general squad camp and an elite camp running. We set out the gym to be training only, so no one did routines all did skills; it was exhausting but fantastic, the general squad girls had such fun and the atmosphere in both camps was great, the girls were given gym bags as their gifts this year and they went down well.

South Durham summer camp was one of the highlights of the year for some lucky elite girls. What a week, the girls took part in dance and improved and gained skills all week.  They didn’t seem tired at all; the girls behaved so well all week and I was very proud of them.  The end to the week was a show of the choreography that they had learned with tutus on, head bands, and all smiling they danced to FAME. My goodness it brought tears to my eyes and does every year; how on earth Leonie and Roxanne manage to get 52 children in time, all performing their own sections in just 5 days is testament to how well this camp is run.  No one wanted to go home, including me, it was so nice just to coach for a whole week and not worry about everyone else for once. Thank you to Nic and Rachel at South Durham or inviting us again, can't wait for next year.

The next thing over the Summer was the Alpha Factor invitational, all the way down in Wiltshire, but so worth it. We love this competition as it has such a lovely atmosphere. Busy, oh yes busy, so well run and so fantastic, the girls loved it and we did too.  We had some surprises to come, Jessie picking up a ribbon  on floor under 8 level 4, Dana coming in 2nd place overall with a whole host of ribbonson individual pieces, along with Lauren coming 2nd in level 3 vault,  Kelly-Jo Robson in 4th place also a  huge achievement. Well done girls. The overall team place in the Ariels cup was 5th.

Retirement, ugh! We have had three well known gymnasts retire in the last few months, Caroline Hall, Rebecca Boal and Leanne Smith; all have decided to hang up their leotards.  Doing gym for 8 or more years is a massive achievement; these three girls have been the back bone of the competing squad for so long, making every competition asked of them and  doing very well indeed, all three girls have competed in national competitions, and Rebecca has represented the North of England on many occasions.

The three girls have seen many changes to gymnastics over the years, with different codes and routines changing, they have smiled, cried and been exhausting at times. They have also been fun, annoying and had us in hysterics at times; thanks girls for the years, just don’t know where they went do you?

Caroline we will still see in the gym as she is a qualified coach; we wish Rebecca and Leanne good luck in everything they do, I have been so proud of them over the years, thanks to you all xx

Great news for the Gym. We now have newly qualified women’s judges, at last!! Well done to Caroline Hall, Marie Mcleod, Marsha Hill, Sheerie Dunn, Kelly-Jo Robson, Dawn Flood, Katie Greenwood and Justine Fowler. I couldn’t be prouder of you all; at last Redcar Gym Club has judges as well as coaches!! WELL DONE xx

Pre Elite is coming up on 15th November, come and support the girls, at South Durham Gym Club (see the calendar entry for more details). Come support Lauren Hearfield, Dana Murray, Kelly-Jo Robson and Vicky Fowler.

Also coming up is Denis Hamer our Christmas Club competition, although a week earlier than normal. There are loads of entries and we will have a great competition.

Diane.

Novice and Intermediate 21st June 2009

Excitement and Apprehension all rolled together for this years Novice and Intermediate Gymnasts.  Who would be good? How good would we be? These were all questions we needed answers for! Off to Newcastle again.

We had 12 Gymnasts across three age groups. For our little 2001 birthdays; Jess, Hannah & Macy, there were only three so all scores to count. We played safe with the routines and vault. It paid off with a Silver team medal and 17 full marks between us and the next team. Wow, girls and all of your scores had to count, some result that was!!

Jessica Lacson finished in 3rd place overall and Macy Cheetham in 6th place overall.  Great results, you 2001`s.

Next up were the 2000`s; Shannon, Tilly, and Chloe. Again three scores were to count, but there were some really talented kids here. Ooooops; a couple of mistakes and a couple of falls but we still won team Silver, a great result.

Shannon Thompson in 4th place and Chloe Robinson in 6th place,  Well done 2000`s.

The old Ladies were next; well not so old - U11, Alice, Ellie, Kate  L and  Vanessa. Some experienced gymnasts here, so a good competition was expected of them. Again, they didn’t disappoint with some great routines and some massive vaults and really good skills.

Alice in 4th place  Well done to everyone. We definitely need some glue though girls, team Silver again!  Wow!

Intermediate U11 Regional Champion was Lauren Hearfield. Well done Lauren you deserve this one, just for my nagging ALONE!!
Another new move learned in a week; straddle to handstand on beam as your mount. Great lol.  Clean routines and interesting bars eh!

Well done to all Redcar Gym Club crew, you all looked lovely. You have harder skills to learn now, so new things to learn over the summer.

Well done, Diane x
