Bill Slater CompetitionThis national event is the only national level event held in the North of England, and took place at City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy on October 26th 2008. A bright Sunday morning saw us all sat in the gym for 7.30am, watching Dana work her magic with the make up. Blue and silver eyeliner to match the sparkly Alpha Factor Elite leotards. Stunning as always, Lauren Hearfield, Dana Murray, Charlotte Hoggarth, Tyla Earl , Caroline Hall, and Melissa Cook. We set off for the first round on the Sunday morning. Would the judges be kind? We hoped so; training had gone well the last couple of days, so we were hopeful coaches that they would go clear. |

Report From Age Groups 28th September 2008We only took a small group of gymnasts to this one, as plagued by injuries some had to stay at home. At least stay at home in a manner of speaking as they came and lent their support. All five of the girls competed really well, and they were looking great in their new leotards, all sparkly. Lauren was a little star, Marge as we call her. She did her giants, and we are all so proud of you lauren!! The team of Tyla Earl, Melissa Cook and Emily Richardsonm were up next. They all competed very well, sailing round all the apparatus and the team coming home with a silver medal in the open age section. Poor Caroline; the only senior out and with no team. The rest were all injured with one thing and another, but she had a good competition, head up, with huge vaults and that usual smile after the twist was over. Well done girls! We need to have some bigger skills, though, no pre elite for us this year as we are going to concentrate on skills in the gym and get you off full routines for a while. I know some will be happy with that idea. Well done, Diane x |

Northern Regional Awards CeremonyCongratulations to Chris Gatenby, Diane Smith and Shona Welsh who were all recipients of awards for service to gymnastics at the recent awards dinner. All of our coaches are volunteers, and it is great for them to be recognised for the hard work they all put in to the club and to the sport. From our partner clubs, South Durham won the women's technical award and from Kendal Chris Wrigley, Dennis Brittain and Vivian Leather won service to gymnastics awards and Danielle Wrigley won a junior service award. Congratulations to all those mentioned above, all the other winners from the region and everyone who contributes and helps keep the sport running. |

2008 WISH campaign - we need your help! The 2008 WISH campaign, run by the Evening Gazette, begins today. By collecting the tokens that appear in the Evening gazette each night, we can claim a share of the £30,000 put up by the Gazette and Tees Valley Community Foundation. Fundraising is always important to a voluntary club such as ours to support the work we do for young people, but this year it is even more vital than ever. We are now at the stage of putting in for planning permission for our new gym building at Rye Hills School. Once this is approved, we will need to begin to raise money rapidly in order for us to achieve our dream of a new home for the club. With so much competition for tokens from so many clubs and good causes, we need every bit of help we can get. The more tokens we get the more money we raise. Ask your friends and family to keep tokens for us and send themin to gym. There is a collecting box in the gym and Marie McCleod will be coordinating the collection. Help us to beat last year's total and bring the funds in. |

Bill Slater 2008The BILL SLATER TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008 will be held at Benfield School, Newcastle on 26th October, 2008. This is a national girls artistic competition. Congratulations to the RGC team who have been selected, Lottie Hoggarth, Rebecca Boal, Lauren Hearfield, Tyla Earl, Caroline Hall and Vicky Fowler, RESERVE Dana Murray. This is just about the only national level gymnastics competition that is held in our region, so it is a massive opportunity for everyone to see live gymnastics of a really high standard. We are hoping to run a coach up to Newcastle for spectators, so speak to the coaches if you are interested. Why don't you come along and watch a National Competition and support the RGC team at the same time? |
