Health and Safety Policy Policy Statement “We at Redcar School of Gymnastics are committed to practices that protect children from harm. Coaches, committee members and volunteers in this organisation recognise and accept our responsibilities to develop the awareness of the issues that may cause children harm.” Definition For the purposes of these policies and procedures children are any person under the age of 18 years, or those whom are considered vulnerable. We will endeavour to promote the highest standards of care for all members, staff and officials by: - Adopting health and safety policies and procedures based on the current recommendations of the British Gymnastics Association and ensuring that they are implemented. Accepting our duty of care for all of our members, volunteers and parents whilst engaged in club activities. Providing a safe environment for all of our members and volunteers at all times on our premises, including the provision of safe equipment and safety equipment. Making all new coaches, committee members and volunteers aware of our child protection, health and safety, and equity procedures and policies. Ensuring all coaches, committee members and volunteers with responsibility for children attend appropriate courses. Appointing a designated person to enable any concerns to be reported and dealt with in accordance with our procedures. Reviewing our policy and practice at regular intervals.
Procedures “We at Redcar School of Gymnastics are committed to providing a safe environment for all of our gymnasts and volunteers. Every person in the gym has a responsibility to take reasonable care of their own health, safety and welfare.” Formal health and safety inspections will be undertaken on a monthly basis and the results recorded. Any problems will be dealt with immediately or the equipment/ space secured to prevent accidents. Formal equipment inspections will be undertaken on a monthly basis and the results recorded. Visual inspections will be undertaken before every use of a piece of equipment. Any problems will be dealt with immediately or the equipment/ space secured to prevent accidents. Fire safety equipment, portable electrical equipment, first aid boxes and heating systems will be serviced at recommended intervals. A practice fire alarm will be held at one session each month. Appropriate risk assessments will be undertaken for all activities. BGA coaching ratios will be observed. All coaches will be qualified for the activity they are undertaking. The club will ensure that it has members of staff with up to date knowledge of fire fighting, first aid and child protection. Any incident, accident, or potential breach of health and safety must be reported immediately to a member of staff. The members of staff with specific responsibility for health and safety are the development coach and the welfare officer.
