Joining The Gym
If you are thinking of joining the gym, please contact us by E-mail or telephone and we can arrange a visit and an informal chat. Most of our new members start gymnastics at a young age, around 4, though some do start at an older age. For any children younger than this, we host the Gyminis on a Friday daytime (see the Gyminis page under Gym Groups on this site). Because of the size of the gym, we can only fit in a certain number of gymnasts at any one time, so we operate a waiting list system, though waiting times are usually short.
When you near the top of the waiting list, we offer a 4 week trial period with sessions on Saturday afternoons. This period serves two purposes. Firstly, it allows both parent and prospective gymnast to see what the club and the sport of gymnastics are like before making a full commitment. Secondly, it allows the coaches to decide which group, general, general squad or elite squad, is the most appropriate starting point for each gymnast.
Following the trial, there may be a further short wait until a space arises in the appropriate group. Dependent on progress, and sometimes the wishes of the gymnast and parent, there may be movement between the groups at later points. Currently, entry into the main gym from the Gyminis is direct dependent on space and coaches assessment and entry to tumbling is a progression from one of the other gymnastics groups.
