Denis Hamer Trophy

The Dennis Hamer Trophy is awarded to the Gymnast or Gymnasts who in the opinion of all the coaches has achieved the most over the year, and also has been a great gymnast to work with. All the coaches vote on the award, and as with last year, we had a hard time choosing as there were so many worthy Gymnasts. The trophy is awarded at the conclusion of our Club competition in December.

Denis Hamer Winners 2010

The first Gymnast is a true worker, a gymnast who lives for her gym, who works the coaches, who is polite, pleasant, happy and a joy to work with.  She is determined, has achieved huge things, made all her competitions with days to spare sometimes, is a gymnast everyone likes and her friends love her. We use her so much as a demonstration model; an absolute pleasure and we are very very proud of her.  She misses no sessions and even makes her parents cancel holidays of come back early which is not great for her brother. Well done Hannah Peggs.

The next Gymnast takes it all in, is bouncy, lively and has achieved lots, happy and willing to learn. This gymnast has achieved lots this year, and has showed us just what great potential and skill they have; a happy member and pleasant to all, his peers like him and he tries very hard.  A vast improvement over the year for Sami Raif.

The other Gymnast is a gymnast who tries, is pleasant, who struggles on and  just loves her gymnastics. She is a pleasant member of the group, attends her competitions, has been in the gym for some time and this year has seen huge huge improvements in her willingness. When asked to get splits to attend grades back in March, coach knowing this was going to be a struggle, this gymnast made sure she had three way splits the next week., The coaches love her , and like her smiles and happiness, a pleasure to have in the gym MEGAN ROBERTSON.

Denis Hamer Winners

Dennis Hamer Winners 2009.

This year has seen levels in the gym raised on every front, from the Recreational gymnasts achieving massive success to the Elite children gaining National medals. So this year has seen many children in the running for this truly prestigious award.
A very hard task lay ahead for us in choosing; commitment, attitude, and work rate are the main factors, and willingness to succeed is a must for any gymnast at any level.
The winners this year:

The first winner is a gymnast who has been with us for a while and has managed to do a level of gym we had not believe she would achieve. I can’t say we have never had words, or tantrums, but I can say mostly over the years she has worked to the best of her ability, well against the odds, This young lady is a prime example of what can be achieved in Gymnastics. She was selected at an early age because she could vault. She made the team up for Sport For All in her age, and since then as astounded us all. Because if we were to look at the characteristics, this young lady shouldn’t be able to do what she does; she has proved to us all that anything can be achieved.
She is a part of RGC, like the holes in the walls, and you will often hear her saying ‘that’s not fair’, or ‘I didn’t get the same time as everyone else’, but the gym wouldn’t be the same without her and the chatting. Well need I say more?  Well done LEANNE SMITH.

The second winner is pretty new to the gym, but it seems like she has been her forever, constantly smiling, constantly annoying and constantly achieving. This little gymnast has amazed us all; we have had our problems, we have had to show her who is the boss and we have laughed and laughed at the strange things she tells us.  When we are cross with her we cannot stay that way as this cheeky smile emerges.
As a Gymnast she is committed, and works hard, she loves to race on and  do another  move, she loves to be in the lead and hates to be told to do things again, so we have to find a  happy balance. This year has seen such an improvement in this gymnast she is working at Elite level, and matching some girls twice her age.
A well earned spot on the podium for JESSICA LACSON.

The next winner, and a very worthy gymnast, is someone who is committed, tries hard and has worked consistently. She is a quiet gymnast who smiles constantly and loves her gym. Not so confident, although we wish she was as she is a good gymnast.  Injured at the beginning of the year and thrown straight back in, she has got on with the job. Not injured in gym but at a party!
This gymnast has a lovely manner and is a lovely child whom everyone likes, gymnasts and coaches alike.
The third winner this year is ALICE BRIGGS.

The Trophy for 2008 was awarded to:

The first winner this year is a gymnast who has worked very hard indeed. He finds gym fun and generally works to a very high standard. He has helped improve the level that his group work at, has competed in regional and national competitions, done displays and more. He has made his coach very very proud . A big well done to Tom Pollard.

The second winner this year is a gymnast who has come from nowhere, worked and worked, been pulled about, corrected, and even told off at times, but in all that has continued to smile. This gymnast lives for gymnastics and we think we see her more than her parents do for sure!! Even when she is told to go and have a free night, doing girly things, this gymnasts turns up. In just under a year this gymnast has risen to the top of the gym, competed at every competition she has been asked to meet the criteria for and is a helpful, hardworking and very dedicated gymnast. Congratulations Lauren Hearfield.

Lauren, Tom and Tyla - Denis Hamer winners 2008

The third, but not least by far, is a gymnast who has been in the gym for along time and has sailed around for a couple of years. But this year, oh my word!! What an improvement, she competed every regional competition, and also competed first time at Nationals this year. She has been a pleasant member who attended every session. She took some almighty wallops on beam, crashed and burned, and got up and tried again. She has determination and managed to move through the ranks with her style. A very pleasant gymnast and a credit to her family, Tyla Earl.

The Trophy for 2007 was awarded to:

The first winner is a gymnast who gives everyting every session, works methodically, producing some fab skills and is lovely natured. But she also tells it how it is; if she is nervous she will say, if it goes badly she will say. She never sulks and is a pleasure to coach and a great team member, competitor and helpful gymnast. Well done Lottie Hoggarth.

Secondly is a gymnast who, if you didn’t know she was there you would forget as she is so quiet, but a cheeky smile every now and again reminds you. I have never seen this child frightened or worried, she gives 100% all the time and gets on with everyone. She is talented and has improved such a lot this year, but doesn’t realise how much . She has made all targets set and is a great team member picking up individual medals as well this year, leah-Mae Thompson.

Lottie, Leah-Mae and Georgia - Denis Hamer winners 2007

The third gymnast for the Dennis Hamer Trophy is a little girl who has been with the club for years. She is maybe going to retire after Christmas, but we still think that she should win this trophy. A lovely gymnast who has some nerves but has competed regulary, but decided herself she didn’t like the pressure so calmy asked if she could do Intermediates. I like children who can feel happy about their gym, and know their own mind, and I thought this was a great decision from such a young lady. The winner of the Dennis Hamer is Georgia Wales.

The Trophy for 2006 was awarded to:

The first choice for this trophy is awarded to a young lady who has represented the club for a long time, in fact I don't think there is ever a competition she hasn't made the target for. Our first gymnast is someone we have got to know well over a few years. It has taken along time for this young lady to realise just how good she is. I really don't think she still has much idea. She is quite brave, except over certain moves, but will try others to compensate. She has spent most of her time in the gym, has represented the club at National Finals and is hardworking and helpful, never cheeky. RACHEL SMITH.

Our second choice for this most sought after award is a youngster who in the gym is a pleasant, happy, friendly girl with nerves of steel. She has managed to put her self in the top end of our gym and show us that little girls can achieve a lot if they just want to work for it. I cant say that we have ever had a time when she hasn't tried a move, and she is genuinely astonished when she gets the next move. She tries hard every session. RHIANNA HOWES.

Rachel, Rhianna and Amy - Denis Hamer winners 2006

Third we would like to give this trophy to a gymnast who comes to every session and never misses, has a lot of determination and has tried all that is asked of her. Sshe is a pleasant chid to work with and gets on well with everyone in the gym. AMY LENG.
